FAQs

What is the Climate Justice Camp?

The Climate Justice Camp is the largest in-person organizing platform of its kind. Every year, hundreds of passionate community leaders come together for a week-long gathering to build relationships, share learnings, and spark ideas on how to achieve truly transformative change. Since 2022, almost 2,000 people from over 100 countries have participated. Global editions have taken place in Tunisia (2022), Lebanon (2023), Tanzania (2024), and Mexico (2025), with regional iterations held in the Caribbean (2024) and Latin America (2025). In 2026, the third regional Climate Justice Camp will come to Asia for the first time.

Who is the Climate Justice Camp for?

Participants always represent a broad range of issues, including climate justice, conservation, adaptation, environmentalism, water rights, human rights, women’s rights, and Indigenous rights, to name a few.

Can I apply with other members of my group or community?

Yes! For us, organizing is not a solo practice, which is why this year we are prioritizing and encouraging people to apply alongside other member/s of their local group or community. We believe that sharing the experience with those closest to us deepens the opportunity to bring learnings home and translate them into action together. Please note that each member of your group will still need to complete their own application, and we can’t guarantee that all members will be selected.

When will applications close?

The last day to apply is May 31st, 2026, at 23:59 UTC+5.

When will I find out if my application has been approved?

We will be reviewing applications as they come in. Given the volume of applications we receive, we will communicate directly with those who either have been selected or have been placed on the waitlist. If you do not hear from us by July 10th, then that means that unfortunately we have reached the maximum of invitations.

How much will it cost or what am I expected to cover?

Admission to the camp is free, and the host organizations are covering the costs of accommodation, food and transportation within Cebu. Participants are asked to cover the costs of travel to Cebu, and any VISA-related costs if needed. To check which visa you may require, click here. There will be some financing available to sponsor the costs of travel to the Philippines, but this is limited and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For those awarded full or partial travel sponsorship, they will be processed as a reimbursement upon arrival at the camp.

How do I know if the Climate Justice Camp is right for me?

The Climate Justice Camp is a platform for community organizers to build relationships, develop skills through daily workshops, share best practices and lessons learnt from the field, and use the space as fertile ground for inspiration on how to create change at the sub-national level. What is the background of the Climate Justice Camp?

Launched in 2022, the Climate Justice Camp brings together local organizers from frontline communities, offering a physical space to build relationships, share learnings, and spark ideas. It is the largest initiative of its kind built by organizers and for organizers. Since 2022, almost 2,000 community organizers working at the intersection of climate and social justice have joined the camp, and more than 200 partner organizations have been involved in its development and growth. What makes the Climate Justice Camp so special is that it is an unbranded platform, and the sum of the thousands of people who have been part of the space.

Who is organizing the camp?

Roots is the host of the Climate Justice Camp platform, and each edition is fundamentally a product of co-creation and collaboration, with dozens of regional and international partner organizations supporting its development and implementation every year. Designed as a two-way experience, the week-long program is delivered by both participants and partners to ensure that objectives and outcomes are grounded in local knowledge and context. Since 2022, more than 200 groups and organizations of all sizes have contributed to making the camp happen.
